Grow Wild are working with Somerville to kick start and establish a kitchen garden and orchard in the playground. We plan to plant a mixture of perennial and annual crops, we will look at forest garden and permaculture principles, with the benefit of the space becoming low maintenance. We have been delivering fortnightly educational and practical gardening and cooking workshops; see some pictures of development so far.
On the 17th May Grow Wild worked with DWF for Give & Gain Day – a national corporate volunteering day. We had a full day planned of hard graft and we cleared a lot of weeds, sowed green manure and built raised beds – a busy but excellent day!
Having the support for the day was in invaluable, it enabled the site to develop considerably – which wouldn’t of been possible for Grow Wild to do on its own! Seeing the space clear and ready for planting is inspiring.
This Saturday 8th June will be planting up the raised beds this weekend! Come and join in!
